A set of shelves, a coat rail, some cookery books, a CD-ROM, a CD-RW and a pair of ski boots - gone in under an hour.

Yes, I could ebay it. Yes, these people might be ebaying it. No, I don't care.

Living on a main road, I've found an even more direct method: on a sunny weekend day, propping the items up against the wall underneath a notice saying "Unwanted - going to the dump later - FREE to take away".

I haven't had to go to the dump yet.
