Beginning German

I just booked on a Beginning German Course starting next week and got asked if I was a guitarist...

Not sure what that has to do with learning how to say and understand key phrases like:

"Bend zee knees"
"Faster!"
"Lean forward"
"Not like that"

and of course...

"Eine Flasche Gluhwein"

Noch ein glas weiB wein, bitte.

and

Sprechen Sie Englisch, bitte?

Zwei Cheesburger bitte got me through my German exchange visit when I was 16. They all speak English, you know. Just wear a badge.

No, no. Just wear a badge saying ich bin ein Englander then they know which language to scream at instruct you in. Much less hassle. (Although German is a great language if you want to learn for the sake of it. Any language with the word gummibaum in it just has to be!)

Ich habe schwien gehaubt!

I think that's right, anyway it means something to Berliners.

Rule of thumb, imparted to me by my A-level teacher:

If your throat's not sore after half an hour, you're not pronouncing it correctly.

Frankly, if you even have a throat left, you're not really trying.

I did German A level and one of my best friends is German... but I can't really speak or remember much of it now! Well, I can understand some words, say a few super stupid dumb sentences, but that's all. Schnell is faster isn't it? Or something like that.

Schnell, schnell, hande hoch! Achtung!

I know how to ask for a beer, tell someone I like their leather trousers and then say, get 'em off. I guess that could be handy...

I just got done looking at your concert pictures and they're AWESOME. I'm also quite jealous that you've gotten to see A23 and Skinny Puppy live. :P
