Squirrels

There are Squirrels in the loft. I thought there was just one originally, but I poked my head up earlier and saw at least two.

They are not paying rent. Something has to be done...

..and quickly cos they chew through wires and the supporting beams.

Unfortunately it's illigal for them to be set free again but mark feeds them to the local fox and her cubs which i thought was the next best thing.

bournville pest control?

and waste good chocolate?

I tried that, they removed the plug. Tho i suppose it depends what you use, concrete would work.
Don't forget to check for nests first, apparently they worse when trapped.

Good luck, hope you can do it without killing.

There's only one thing for it...

PIE!

Friends of mine bought a BB gun to keep the squirrels off the bird feeder...

S'very handy, but I recomend a decently powered airrifle. Otherwise you run the risk of not actually killing them.

They didn't want to kill them, just scare them, which has worked. They now need only open the window and the squirrels will scamper.

Slightly more difficult if they're actually nesting in the loft...

You're meaning an "airsoft" type BB gun shooting plastic pellets, I'm guessing...

[identity profile] karohemd.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 11:43 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed.

I found water pistols to work quite well on cats, so that may help!

One of those sonic high pitched noise device things?

[identity profile] mr-h-r-hughes.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
In my experience they don't work.

[identity profile] curlwomble.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 11:42 am (UTC)(link)
2 squirrels will rapidly become >2...

[identity profile] blackvelvetmag.livejournal.com 2006-05-10 11:45 am (UTC)(link)
Aw. Be nice to them.

Buy a lion and pop that in the loft.

No more squirrel problems.

This made me laugh. A lot.

My dad took a shotgun to the last squirrel that got in where he didn't want it.

A real one - he has a licence & everything.

Apparently he used loads of shells before actually getting it.

I told him he was mean!

Do it quickly! Squirrels are the biggest cause or rural house fires because of chewing through cables. They're a bugger to get rid of too, especially if you want to do it humanely. They don't tend to eat poison. (My parents had them...)

*giggle* My dad shoots them...

get a cat! one of mine's very good at catching them. he caught the one i'd painstakingly tamed over winter, anyway. but make sure you get rid of the bodies - they're riddles with fleas!

During my first year at University I had a terrifying sequence of nightmares about squirrels. I still don't trust them to this day. Odd but true. And not relevant.

gas 'em all.

Capture them and give them to me.
I like squirrels in our garden and feed them every day.
Here's one of our regulars: http://www.paulwilder.co.uk/images/squirrel.jpg

Cats on the other hand I chase out of our garden!
