Well, an interesting couple of days, with a bit of "Computer Catastrophe" for added amusement.

Friday was the ballet - Beauty and the Beast at the Hippodrome - where there were no singing candlesticks, but there was a cute little fox, superb raven/crow and a great cloak in evidence. Marginally spoilt by the number of conversations going on around me ("Look mum - a fox!" etc.) but I won't start too much on that or it'll cause another rant about whether I should be allowed to live in a childless bubble or should I enjoy being surrounded by bad mannered children.

Saturday I went into town, partly inspired by my failure to sort out [livejournal.com profile] venta's photo competition, and partly because I have a tripod and my brother's SLR and I wasn't afraid to use them. Some interesting results which I'll probably post separately for critique/abuse. Then to Waylands Forge to see [livejournal.com profile] grendelchild and [livejournal.com profile] delvy, then home, a run, and an exciting evening at the cinema.

Star City, for those of you who haven't been is perhaps the ugliest abhorration Birmingham currently has to offer. Neon, bars, cheap shops, a huge gaudy casino - all catering to the illiterati of Chelmsley Wood (sorry, North Solihull). It started badly when despite being in the "Advance Ticket Collection" queue the bloke in front of me was trying to buy tickets, then he spent 5 minutes trying to the the notes reader to take his debit card, then another 5 minutes attempting to load his debit card into the right slot. F*ckwit.

But I relaxed - which was a good job as I was in the cinema for a long time following - enjoying the limited theatrical release of "Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition", all 3+ hours of it. The print was a bit crap in places - with the Council of Elrond being especially jaundiced - but it was great. Especially for the transformation of Celeborn from camp-tw*t to supporting character. Hopefully Two Towers Extended will be on next weekend. This of course is the reason for the title of this post, as I still keep expecting Elrond to put on a pair of shades and start with the wire-fu. This wasn't helped by thinking of the Saruman/Gandalf encounter as "The Geratrix" as they bounce around the former'stower.

So, in between this I was trying to scan the photos I'd taken into the PC. Unfortunately when I plugged [livejournal.com profile] quondam's scanner into my PC it restarted. Odd I thought. So I let it reboot, and discovered for some reason my onboard NIC doesn't work anymore. Bugger says Pooh, so it was off to PC World this morning.

I've not quite given up yet on it, but it does strike me as strange that I have a USB port which reboots the PC whenever anything is plugged into it. Damaged port methinks. I shall bash my head against the problem for a bit, then get on with things in the hope of being ready for NMA this evening.

First of all, this is purely for my benefit - not for any others entertainment, but feel free to massage my ego if you like me, or the results. Professionals or other people who know what they are doing are asked not to laugh.
