The Modern

Last night I went, with baloobas, to see The Modern at the (rather small and frankly shite) Bar Academy in Birmingham. The signs weren't good - name not on the list, no support, band on at 9:45.

However, they put on a storming set that felt unfairly short. If there is any justice they should go somewhere. But there seldom is.

In a word - no :-)

Actually the pressure is off you a bit - baloobas is going to do the meat of the article, but if there are any general exaltations about the band and their music that you'd like to contribute then send them over.

Eh. As long as she's suitably enthusiastic about them. I'm not going to try and tailor my exaltations to how someone else might write.

I expect they played 'Jane Falls Down', 'Discotheque Francais', 'Industry' and 'Tokyo Girls'. Maybe also 'Sometimes' or 'Fool In The Name Of Love' or 'Seven Oceans' - one of the three, probably not more if you said the set felt short. I hope one of you knows.

While I'm unlikely to be quite as enthusiastic as you, we both thought it was a brilliant gig so I'm sure there won't be that much difference.

They don't really have enough songs they play live to warrant an encore. Once they do I expect they'll turn 'Tokyo Girls' into one, it always kind of feels like that anyway. :)

I nearly turned them all black and white, but decided a hint of colour worked.

I just wanted to ask if the light was like that or you tried to make the best of the crap lighting available. ;o)
I think the almost sepia tone works very well with their style.

Very shiny, I like them. Toning works nicely.
