Strike!

Ok, it didn't happen much, but I'm still so enthusiastic about actually winning a game of bowling that it's still on my mind. However, that was Tuesday and today is Friday so I could perhaps be a bit more current. This isn't helped by the fact I'm drinking too much coffee again. I blame quondam and her experiments.

Somewhat controversially I have to make an admission about the documentary on the BNP last night - having watched Nick Griffin sleaze his way through the Newsnight interview I find myself agreeing with some of the things he had to say. Underneath the racism, and the exaggeration he was actually highlighting a couple of important points. Firstly People are shit and secondly Religions encourage people not to get on, and start wars.

Other than that it was as distasteful as I expected. though my tolerance of documentary is perhaps floundering. These days the ones I watch on TV seem to be rather more designed to be "exciting" or "over the top" than "interesting" or "informing". Everything from Horizon to Panorama reflects tabloid journalism rather than the broadsheet aspirations of the good old days.

Of course this is one of the problems the BBC has. On one hand it has to be popular in order to "justify" the public funds, but on the other hand to fulfill the duty it has been charged with it it cannot be popular - the majority don't want to be informed, they want to be entertained; they don't want to learn, they want to vegetate on the sofa with a can of lager.

Me? I watch Kerrang TV - at least it delivers what it claims to.

Off to Manchester tonight - I'm informed that it's a nice place to visit. We shall see.
