Necromantix@Edwards No8
Oct. 19th, 2004 11:02 pmAn interesting gig - indeed one of the more interesting gigs I've been to, mainly due to its lack of headline act.
Pull up a chair and I'll tell you a story...
I was still busy processing the photos from Carnival of Souls so I didn't get to Edwards until about 8:30, in time to catch the last couple of songs from (what I think was) the second act, who were amusing enough in a kinda punk kinda way (not my taste so I suspect I got the genre completely wrong and they have some long and complicated name). Then it was time for local boys The Klopeks. The lads went good guns, but only actually played I think three songs before they threw in the towel after frantic gesticulations from the sound booth.
Settling myself down near the sound booth I was treated to two slanging matches between members of Eddies staff and the sound engineer - who - it transpired had been messing about with the equipment without permission and apparently a small amount of "physical" was involved between the engineers. Hmmm. The next support were ok, got some nice pics (I hope) and then about thirty minutes later we thought it was time for the main act.
Then comes a report from downstairs of "raised voices". The singer from Necromantix then takes the stage, announces the management are dickheads and pulls the gig. Pulling bits of information together it seems the band were trying to get their cash (£800), and someone (I assume the promoter rather than the club) wouldn't hand it over. At this point there was a "You're next" aimed at the manager so she called the police.
As the band packed up we had no less than six police in the club (being ~professional~ rather than ~paparazzi~ I refused encouragement to take photos) making sure nothing kicked off between, well, anyone and anyone else and taking various statements. Eventually I got bored, carded a chap (allegedly) from Kerrang and got the bus home to break the news to
missy_b I missed out on my first assignment ;-)
Still - better than television and The Klopeks were very nice and seemed interested in getting some photos done for their new album. They even mentioned paying...
