A little more time on trains and I've watched some more "I, Claudius" on DVD.

Gosh it's both jolly good and jolly frightening. The acting is delivered with a fantastic understated confidence and has moments of beautiful subversion.

Even that paragon of Federation virtue Captain Picard is a bit of a wrong 'un.

More I say, more!

I'm rather surprised that it's only now you're coming to Clavdivs.

They don't make 'em like that any more.

I was about 10 if'n I remember correctly, but I managed to wangle it. The start of a deep and abiding interest in things Roman.

Go back to the books, young White, and follow them up with David Wishart's stuff.

I could do with some of that before Odyssey.

I, Claudius is great. Have you read the book?

I've always wanted to watched that after my parents raved about it. I remember watching Elizabeth R with Glenda Jackson and thinking the BBC did some quality historical drama on minimal money.

It's a great series.
I have the book and that is just as blood thirsty, you can borrow it if you want.

Derek Jacobi is fabulous... fabulous... I have the audio book of I Claudius and love it.

Sadly Cap'n Picard, while wonderfully seedy and threatening in I Claudius, still reminds me of his role in Confessions of a Window Cleaner, which tends to undermine the performance for me :-)

Ahhh, I love I, Claudius! John Hurt is fab in it. My Dad has it on video. Watched it in a marathon a couple of years ago - it was great.

It is wonderful. Trouble is, I tend to get distracted wondering where I've seen the actors before.

Sian Phillips can be one scary lady.
