Now my backlog of photographs is under control I have a backlog of LJ entry. This is nearly as bad for my sanity, but probably better for you lot as it saves you reading it. Instead, a WIDATW

I should stop now.

Oh, and I have a job interview, probably Wednesday, probably early. Good luck to at least one other person who has a (different) interview this week.

So, another weekend in a wet field over. And boy, was it wet this time. Fortunately there was good drainage on the site, and I just have the one remaining problem of how to get all the green out of my kit.

Set is at http://www.disturbing.org.uk/images/lrp/pd/initiation/index.htm

Movie Night

I'm not a tidy person. This isn't much of an admission to those people who actually know me IRL. On the inside I have a sense of order, and everything has a place - but in practice to find anything in my life involves some kind of Zen navigation around a series of identical plastic boxes.

So, this weekend was mostly spent feeding animals and moving stuff out of living areas into storage areas. Exciting eh!

Ok, that's not entirely true - I did get to SNFNGS which was the usual soap opera, and last night I had an evening in with company and DVDs. First up was The Pillow Book, followed by Dogma.

The former I'd not seen before, but had some ideas about and was most enjoyable, and not just because a young Ewan Macgregor spent most of the film demonstrating how beautiful people don't need clothes. Ok, so it's a bit pretentious-art-wank at times but is visually confident and engaging.

Dogma certainly has its faults, but it made me smile. It appeals to my irreverent sense of humour and despite turning an early night into a late one gets the thumbs up, again.

House-sitting, as I am at the moment for while the Vikings([livejournal.com profile] boglin & [livejournal.com profile] lupercal) are on their Orkney Saga, is always interesting. You learn a lot about people's lives, and understand why they are so odd. I know I would be if I woke up every morning with three pairs of staring feline eyes looking at me. They are cute though. Plus, certainly in that house I never feel alone - it's having a portrait of the house owners together on at least one wall in each room...

Oh and good-gig news. 99% sure of Skinny Puppy pass tomorrow in Nottingham, and the chance of an interview with them (and [livejournal.com profile] kantti to do all the hard work). Very exciting.

And a final note - a lovely missive from [livejournal.com profile] mr_h_r_hughes:

Your LJ post continue to make me happy, this new Simon who's all ethusiastic about role-playing is wonderful!Where did you find him and do you really think, as you claimed you did, that Mailshot will put him back in his box and once more release the other more usual Simon (you know the one, the result of hideous experiment involving splicing the genes of Eyore and Oscar Wilde
Made me smile.

Tidying

Everytime I tidy my room I find the same kinds of thing. Frist there are the memories, then there is the LRP kit, the recycling and finally the rubbish.

Today I've merged all my LRP kit into one place, or at least one house. This is itself full of memories- my first robe, the costume I wore at my first Gathering and more plate armour. I look most fondly at the box of costume titled "Treasure Trap - Would not be seen dead in this now". There's many, many weekends of my life, and perhaps a class of degree, in that box. Brightly coloured polycotton was the order of the day. I don't want it. I can't see myself ever using it. I can't bring myself to bin it. I wonder if it still fits?

There are also the relics of projects passed - half-made costume, large boxes of charity shop sheepskin and suede jackets, wool in various colours and finishes. I shouldn't ever have to buy costume again. I must finish making some of it up at some point. If only to then look at it, smile, then put it away in a box forever.

A week after Odyssey I'm still on a high. I can't make Sunlight as I'm busy with real-life, but I'm getting tempted by Vikings. I've "rowed-the-old-longship" along in the past, but I suspect that another Maelstrom will remove my enthusiasm, or I'll have to take [livejournal.com profile] harrytc's advice of "Lie down. Rest. Towels and water."

Finally, I found a note in my paperwork. I don't recognise the handwriting, or the quote:

I hope nothing

I'm not afraid of anything

I'm free
Tragically, writing this some long dormant synapses have fired, and rather than a profound comment to live my life by - I think it's a translation of a t-shirt. Oh well...

Edit: A Google later - all my romantic hopes are dashed. I was right about the t-shirt.

Ok, by next year I shall look more like Brad Pitt - but at the moment my ugly mug can be seen in some of the photos from the last weekend (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] quondam) at:

and

I took 6 photos in total. See, I am not an addict.

Warning - this is an LRP post. It might be very boring to some...

In conclusion it was fun, it was old-skool (high fantasy, high ref-involvement and relatively unpretentious) LRP and I hope it runs again next year. Not perfect, but then what is?

Finally, special mention must go to [livejournal.com profile] agentinfinity and [livejournal.com profile] mr_h_r_hughes for bringing the group together. Top marks!

Now I must go and patch up my damaged lower legs some more. Damn brambles.

I seem to be flicking through the TV and coming across Poker. After two evenings at HoG I'm down 82p, but I still can't understand why people watch it on TV unless it's railing against insomnia. No-one even wants to advertise during the shows...

I must not get too into the whole gambling thing - after all I have a history of trouble - 50c lost in Vegas, and £2 on the lottery.

I did however get my new bike today. It's very goth... see here. It has many things in its favour, like being black, being fast, very light, and being my unconditional friend.

Perhaps I should spend some time polishing my knees...

This has, in some respects, been a long time coming. For various reasons I had a falling out with my PC, and was in such a navel-gazing self-indulgent mopey mood that the last thing I wanted to do was share it with the unwashed LJ masses.

Oh, and the cause of my despair? Losing 150GB of photos in a hard drive mishap. This left me rather annoyed at the time. I've managed to get 99%+ of them back, and now have, shall we say, a better backup regime than I had before.

I now need to take more photos - sign up here!

Or at least I will after a weekend in a wet field dressed for the Mediterranean sunshine. Perhaps a slight miscalculation there.

Been places, done stuff. Might say more soon.

For now, some photos from Maelstrom:

About 200 in total split over two pages (45 "favourites" on the first, then 139 more on the other).

Missed me?
kneeshooter: (Desire)
In no way have I been out to all the places I intend to. Some of them I've just not gotten around to yet, while others (mainly comprising alternative music festivals in Germany) simply scare me to the point that I need promises of being looked after to at least a cursory degree before I contemplate finding my passport.

However, nowhere on any of these lists does "Reflex - the 80s Bar" appear. Plus even if I did go - being dressed as a pirate wasn't even on the same planet.

So why, gentle reader, did I end up last night first wandering up Broad Street, then sitting in a club wearing a Tricorn hat and some LRP kit, singing along (in my own semi-private way) to music I completely failed to appreciate when it was first released?

Actually, I'm not really asking for forgiveness, but rather to understand myself a little better. And good excuses why I shouldn't check my goth card on the way out, and leave the building.

Certainly had some fun moments though...

Oh, and the KoL/Features review is up at http://www.bbc.co.uk/birmingham/content/articles/2005/06/27/kol_feature.shtml. The slightly sarcastic comment I included relating to the photo-pass ambiguity in the cover email seems to have been included in the review - ooops.

And finally a poll - help me justify something I'm going to do anyway, probably, through an exercise in LJ-democracy. I promise to consider all points of view...

[Poll #524153]

Couple of sets of Photos just added.

Firstly Diamond Rendezvous from last Friday. The link below takes you to the Index Page. Act Five and Act Six involve nipple tassles so might be considered NWS.

http://www.disturbing.org.uk/portfolio-dr4.htm

Secondly a large chunk of LRP photos from Maelstrom last weekend.

http://www.disturbing.org.uk/images/lrp/pd/prosperity/index.htm

The backlog is still huge - with pics in the pipeline going back months - Nightwish Tristania, Faetal, Misnomer, Zombina, The October Country, EN, British Sea Power and Moby.
