If you have a dance floor, and nobody else can clear it, then you need...

Actually I thought it all worked out very nicely, and I delivered a stunning performance to a crowd that seemed to have an average age of about 12. Maybe I am getting old.

Yesterday afternoon I decided that as I was unlikely to get requests, and I want to think about the music and mixing, I would pre-mix a set - so out came Acid Pro and I and turned up with a single 49:30 track on CDR. This also allowed me to pay homage to the Orb, but as I didn't take a chess set instead I played Bounce on my phone while not-mixing. Still, I got to level 3 for the first time.

Anyway - going to set up my first exhibition later, but here's the set-list from yesterday:

  • 1000 Homo DJs - Supernaut

  • Oomph! - Augen Auf

  • Skinny Puppy - Tainted Love

  • Front 242 - Headhunter (FLA Mix)

  • XPQ-21 - Bela Lugosi's Dead

  • Assemblage 23 - I Am The Rain

  • Zeromancer - Doctor Online

  • PWEI - Ich Bin Ein Auslander (Die Krupps Mix)

  • ASP - Ich Will Brennen

  • NIN - That's What I Get

  • New Model Army - 51st State
For more of the same (or better) come along on November 6th to SNFNGS (Birmingham) and November 9th to Intrusion (Oxford)* where I shall be trying my best to undo all of [livejournal.com profile] lupercal's good work.

* Should [livejournal.com profile] deeteeuk remember.

Mrr. You mean covers, presumably? The thought of just Tainted Love remixes gives me The Fear.

Mkay, so there's the Gloria Jones original. The Soft Cell '81 cover and the '91 remix. Then there's the Marilyn Manson cover, allegedly an Alanis Morissette cover (I have to hear that), there's a techno cover (though I don't know who's responsible), this Skinny Puppy cover I've not heard, the excellent Tycho Brahe version that segues into the Dr Who theme at the end...

What have I forgotten? :)

The Techno cover mentioned may well be the Icon one - I have it on cd single somewhere. From the mid-nineties, has happy cheery techno-girl singing. Really quite awful in a really good way.

Oh, and fairly sure Marilyn Manson did a cover as well.

If he didn't, it's the only song EVER he hasn't covered, and he will soon.

He has, yes. It's reasonable - if you like Manson's general style of covers.

So THAT's who did that cover of Supernaut I remember hearing years ago in a club!

I so need to replace my tapes of poppies with CDs.

Oooh. My that's not right sense is tingling about the idea of turning up with a pre-mixed single track.

Obviously I've never DJ'd so I know nowt. But it's, well, it's Just Not Right :)

SNFNGS on the 6th will fail miserably as it clashes with my party so all the cool people will not be at the SNFNGS

nyah :p
