Having just been to my german class again, I'm convinced I've stepped onto the set of a sit-com. All the stereotypes are there - the old man who mumbles to himself, the overconfident professional, the mousey quiet woman and so on. Part of me is intrigued which one I am - so go on LJ - help me out with suggestions...

It's all good fun mind, but I do question the quality of some of the teaching - the instructor knows something (to reinforce learning, to encourage participation and interaction) but she's very fast, mumbles her target language and seems almost afraid to correct mistakes. I'd rather a bit more accuracy.

Also this evening I've installed the new version of Trillian. Apart from being more like Windows FisherPrice and taking up more screenestate to do the same thing it seems ok. However, the contextual links to wikipedia seem a little over-enthusisatic. I used the word "manage" in a conversation to mean "to apply principles of managment" and it thought I was talking about Belgium and offered me this:

Manage is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Hainaut. On January 1, 2004 Manage had a total population of 22,091 (10,820 males and 11,271 females). The total area is 19.68 km² which gives a population density of 1,122.33 inhabitants per km².
So, now I know...

The guy with long hair whom the mousey quiet woman writes poems about. In German. Watch out for the handbag.

Well, you can turn all that crap off :) It shouldn't take up any more space than the Trillian 2.

You're the one who no-one can figure out, who it turns out, by the end of the course, is going home and writing about all the other Palahniuk-esque freaks and weirdos on the course in his OLJ, attracting a vast audience.

Or something.

Tha 'manage' thing makes me tempted to get Trillian.

Cheers for the heads up about the new version of Trillian.

Not to sound too cheeky, but any word on the PWEI photopass? I'm trying to get myself together for the trek up to Brum...

You are the sinister, deviant, photographer who starts out atagoriseing all the other students and ultimately ends up following them and secretly taking their pics for 'his files'. The overconfident professional is the one you end up killing first.

You are the one with the sincerity issues who after a few weeks will find someone with what approaches a similar sense of humour and the two of you will sit together and make snide comments belittling people.

Specifically the over confident manager type.

Either that or you are chandler from friends

You are the quiet studious one who turns out to have been having a rampant affair with the tutor for months at the end of year party.

Mousey quiet woman is cool. That would be me. Be nice to her. Befriend her.

My initial thought was that you meant mousey as in 'with mousey brown hair'. But then I suddenly thought 'maybe mousey was an added description for shyness' like 'quiet as a mouse'. So saying I wasn't a mouse was just saying I didn't have brown hair. lol.
