Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Aug. 14th, 2005 08:39 pmFun, well done, top squirrels but the main irritation were the creeping Americanisms. I know I shouldn't care so much, or let them irritate me as much, but perhaps I'm just in an irritable kind of mood.
I certainly don't seem to be in the kind of mood where I write a lot, that's for sure. Move along.

Date: 2005-08-14 08:29 pm (UTC)It's not creepy at all.
Of course, what I've not done is checked what the book actually said...

Date: 2005-08-14 08:32 pm (UTC)It was supposed to be in America? Wasn't Charlie from England though? How did they explain that?

Date: 2005-08-15 09:43 am (UTC)It's so long since I read the book I really couldn't remember what had changed.
One thing I noticed which I thought was rather sinister and hyper-real was the way all the character's faces were shot in smooth-o-vision. They'd been treated to look a bit like 3D animations, I think. I wanted all of Mr Depp's outfits, they were lovely.
It lacked substance a bit though, and I couldn't hear any of the Umpalumpa lyrics which probably contributed to this.
