Ok, so the irritating 118 sponsorship tries its best to ruin it, but in the first two minutes we have Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons (fantastic!) and Lord Palpatine Burghley.

Has he got a lightsaber in his doublet or is he just happy to see her? It's the voice - I can't associate it with anything else.

..a bit lifeless tho?

After Judi, I'm not sure even Helen Mirren can compare....

Nah.

It may have been the least screen time taken to gain an oscar, but by god... She was bloody marvellous.

I haven't watched it yet - saving it for later! As a child of the 70s Glenda Jackson will always be the definitive Elizabeth I for me, but I do like the look of this cast very much so have high hopes for it.

I thought it was very well acted and the characters seemed spot on for what I know of the people involved, but by God it was creative with the history!.

I thought it was very fine indeed (especially the clothes!) and she is probably my favourite Elizabeth to date. The whole Palpatine thing did keep me distracted though.

Off with his hand ... oh, and use a chisel! I don't know about the rest of you but I was expecting an axe.
