Cool. However no hurrahs and a big BOOOO! that it was decided yesterday that despite complaints the programme 'Bring Your Husband to Heel' was not sexist. If you know nothing about this, it popped up on the schedules a few months ago and was based on the principal that men are like dogs and should be trained that way. A woman with a 'problem husbands' invites an expert in dog behaviour into her home and the husband is then 'trained'. They got away with it because the BBC reckon the intention wasn't to offend and that it was all a big lovely joke (aaaaah, sweet). Here's a link if you don't belive me.

I believe it was tongue-in-cheek - but I would agree that had it been the other way around (men training women like dogs) it would never have been shown.

Glad Ofcom have with-held the complaints. Otherwise we risk spiraling into the way the USA have it. Ad breaks during the final credits????? Also, godgirl noted the otherweek that the BBC/HBO co-production Rome is 10 minutes shorter in the USA.

It was a minor annoyance to me when I watched Lost. But I stopped watching it when I found out there was a second series. I prefer a self contained story, if I want a rambling endless epic then I have real life. Only time I allowed myself to get caught into a multi-series story was Millennium. I felt safe with that as it was working towards a final climax on the 2000 dateline. However, they showed the third and final series in a disjointed fashion so I ended losing the plot.

Rome, which I'm watching on download has been reworked for the differetnt audiences.

The UK version has had slight cuts and has been turned from 12 "hour" episodes in the US (with ads) into 11 "hour" episodes (without ads) in the UK.

and the UK version has less shagging and more dialogue.

probably because the US audience would get bored of people talking without frequent breaks for gratuitous nudity and so forth.

each UK scene has been split in three for the US version and three plot lines run concurrently in 2 minute segments as opposed to a whole 6 minute one here... another way to help with the reduced concentration span of the US audience.

i must admit, i was a little.. surprised, to find that the necessity of mark antonys complete full frontal nudity in last week's episode over here has not been questioned...

24, the Keifer Sutherland series, is 24 60 minute episodes, timed for US TV.

When shown on the Beeb, it's 24 45 minute episodes.

When I was last in the States, one of the channels I saw had a 80 minute episode.

but that includes the frequent commercial breaks in the US - if shown on bbc, the lack of breaks means the episodes have to be shorter if theyre not re-edited as in the case of Rome.

I'm really glad about this. A while ago E4 became pretty near unwatchable because of constant advert breaks. I think this gave them the idea they could get away with it so they started doing it on C4 as well.
