This morning was in one way lovely. I got up, had a shower and shave, and drove a massive 4 miles to work. This is in so many ways good. Yesterday it was 75...

However, clearly I broke some local rule this morning by driving counter-clockwise around Oxford rather than clockwise. I had no less than 4 encouners with oncoming traffic which nearly ended in automotive death. Its cold here, a bit of ice on the windscreen, but not the snow [livejournal.com profile] pax_draconis has been navigating. So, this is why people can drive over blind narrow humpback bridges at 40, sweep on the school run around the single lane roads with no care for oncoming traffic and parked vehicles, head straight down the middle of the road through the traffic calming with a determined impression and finally overtake a cyclist while going uphill and around a corner.

Sheesh!

Read some of the Amber rules last night, in between trying to remember [livejournal.com profile] jfs character name from GD. I might even read some of the books now. Suggestions to bother/not to bother?

Taipo Karu.

And if you mean the Zelazny books, definitely read the first 5, don't bother with the second 5 unless you really really get bored.

Could not agree more. Read the first five, second five is you are a sucker for punishment...

I see earlier risers than me have already given the same advice. Nine Princes in Amber was a late-teen read for me, and hooked me all the way through to the end of the series. The second series of five I found frankly disappointing. Always torn between Julian's armour, Caine's dress sense, Bleys' style and Fiona's class, though :-)

I should like to post a vote for the second series despite its disappointingly poor ending. It still contains some good stuff. Unfortunately RZ was on his last legs when he wrote the final part and it is very sketchy and feels unfinished and hurried.

Ah, that takes me back.
I larnt to drive good there.
You have to.
Otherwise some mad bint (sorry sixtine) in a volvo with two children called Portia and a labrador runs you off the road whilst listening to vivaldi (no stereotyping or prejudice here at all, oh no).
I know.

Deffinately read the books, as everyone else has said the first five are the better reads, although I enjoyed the others aswell. I feel Zelazney was intending to carry on the series as there are a few unanswered points at the end.
I have all the books in one big bumber volume, I can get you the isdn number if you want as *cough* I ordered a copy recently for someone else *rolls eyes*

y'know, when I started Omega, I based Kyle loosely on Brand...
