When we only have one life, I can't belive it is better not to have. It is in having (all exceptions like diseases etc noted) that we experience joy and fulfillment and in loss that we experience emotions which we can still turn to good by using them to increase our empathy and understanding of others and learning (where it is possibly to do so) from the experiences that led to the loss so we don't do it again.
