I've just been back to the Nurse concerning the hole in my leg. The nice lady (who remembered me) gave me some free bandages, a sheet of silver for the wound and a prescription for antibiotics. She cheerfully informed me that there are likely to be stomach-related side-effects. So of course I Wikipediad the drug and was informed:

Common adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with the use of flucloxacillin include: diarrhoea, nausea, rash, urticaria, pain and inflammation at injection site, superinfection (including candidiasis), allergy, and transient increases in liver enzymes and bilirubin.

Something to look forward to over the next few days then!

Silver-ions and silver compounds show a toxic effect on some bacteria, viruses, algae and fungi typical for heavy metals like lead or mercury, but without the high toxicity to humans that is normally associated with them. Its germicidal effects kills many microbial organisms in vitro (i.e. in a test tube or a petri dish). The exact process by which this is done is still not well understood, although several different theories exist. One of these is a process generally known for heavy metals called the oligodynamic effect, which goes a long way explaining the effect on microbial lifeforms but does not explain certain antiviral functions.

It wasn't that bad when I had it. You do have to eat half a hour afterwards though otherwise you get terrible heartburn. Mind you I was in hospital on nil by mouth except opiates for 36 hours and only puked once right at the end.

And hey, at least you won't get thrush.

From what I know about drugs and side effects - the manufacturers try to cover their asses as much as possible by putting anything that might even be vaguely related from the tests on the packets. Therefore I never get especially worried about such things.

Um, he could get thrush. That's what superinfection (candidiasis) is isn't it?
At any rate, it is much better than pus in your leg. At least tummy-ache and thrush won't make your leg turn runny and fall off. Get better soon!
