Exams & Coffee
Jun. 25th, 2009 04:54 pmI have finished my exams. I am currently eating too many bananas and drinking too much coffee.
I know that I am drinking too much coffee because of two things I did in my exam this morning.
The first was to say 'Economists who believe in the accuracy of models should give up now and teach high school physics or write Science Fiction. For one of the few examples of models working read Isaac Asimov's Foundation books."
The second was to explain strange attractors in complex market systems using a line drawing of two houses separated by a hill with a car on it.
Either it'll be marked by a man with a sense of humour. Or not.
Now 4 days off before London.
Mmm. Sleep. Better than Seabound or Malcolm Gladwell.
Anyone still reading this shit?
Oh, and having lost my N95 I am now debating between an iPhone and an E75. The N97 has been written off as too much. If only O2's tethering plan wasn't absolutely dreadful the decision would be easy. My current dumbphone has no numbers or email and it hurts.
If you'd like me to have your phone number or help with my address book please fill in :

Date: 2009-06-25 04:02 pm (UTC)So if you just want the tethering so you can use a laptop to do the usual minimum email and web checking while on the road, you might well get away with it without the absurd plan. If you want it for full-on business use, yeah, it's not perfect.
(I cannot vouch that this is 100% the case, have not tried it myself, and obviously, things may change, but this appears to be the current state of play...)

Date: 2009-06-25 04:06 pm (UTC)Or I have my spreadsheet which will tell me if a short-term E75 might make sense with possible upgrade later in the year if it's changed by then. My main concern is spending the summer in an office with controlled web access - so I will need some kind of mobile device potentially (being the addict I am).

Date: 2009-06-25 04:35 pm (UTC)The risk to O2 is that there is sufficient bad press that Apple get their noses put out of joint and intervene either to 'influence' behaviour or open competition. The chance probably is pretty small - but to charge that kind of money for what is dangerously close to 'no additional service' is the close to a textbook definition of 'unfair' for competition authorities.

Date: 2009-06-25 04:57 pm (UTC)Exams over heh.. now you need to give it a year or so before you are comfy with a more vegetative way of life.
The new iPhone has shinier bits on the inside. You can't see em, but they are there so it is obviously better.
These days I browse the netbook developments rather than phones, at some point my eee701 will be replaced but just waiting a few more months (still).
