Just remember - it's a tool, not a lifestyle. ;) Incidentally - tripods - £5 for what look to be reasonable second hand ones (a bit battered looking - but quite sturdy, perhaps a bit heavy). £17 for a new one ("ideal for digital cameras" not sure how) which is small, light and pretty - but not very sturdy, nor very tall. £25 and up for new big sturdy ones.
